January 2014
I’ve just finished reviewing my August copies of (Harper’s) Bazaar, Vogue and In Style magazines…and whether you call it “A Rose Bouquet” (Vogue), or “Blush Up” (In Style), what all these magazines have in common, is that they’re thinking pink for AW2013. “Think Pink” (Bazaar) is their take on THE colour for the autumn winter 2013-2014 season, from the catwalk collections.
For those of you old enough to remember (that’s me!) and for Hollywood movie fans, this phrase is taken from the song “Think Pink”, which featured in the Audrey Hepburn film “Funny Face” in 1957.
Maggie Prescott (aka Anna Wintour in todays’ world) feels the July issue of her magazine “Quality” is too boring and chooses a pink theme to brighten up the issue. She endorses the women of America to banish the black, bury the beige and think pink!
For those of you who haven’t seen the film – I’ve found a great clip of the song on You Tube for you to watch here…
This is always a good time to contact old clients and to attract new ones with colour updates and style sessions – and to help your ladies (and gents) choose new items for their Autumn Winter wardrobes.
When there is such a clear colour direction from the catwalks it makes our job even easier. This seasons’ “pink” selection is a real bonus which we can use to promote our businesses. What’s even better news, is that pink came in many shades: fuchsia at DKNY, soft blush at Dior, coral at Simone Rocha, rose at Roksanda Ilincic, carnation at Giles, salmon at Marc Jacobs, puce at Top Shop Unique and fierce fuchsia at Balmain and Gucci.
